Chicken Coop
All of the identified structures on the Gilfillan Farm property are in need of varying levels of restoration work. It is the mission of the Historical Society of Upper St. Clair to restore the historic buildsings and reconstruct those that are no longer standing, to the standards set forth by the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.

While the chicken coop is no longer standing, it is the goal of the Historical Society of Upper St. Clair to reconstruct the building in accordance with the standards of the PA Historical & Museum Commission.

Hope for the Future
The chicken coop at the Gilfillan Farm is estimated to be built around 1855. The purpose of the building was to house the chickens of the farm. The building was a multi-room structure that allowed the chickens to be seperated based on purpose (egg-laying or meat-producing). Roosters and hens could even be seperated based on gender.
Unfortunately, the original chicken coop was a wood structure that was beyond repair. The only viable course of action was to demolish the structure and rebuild when possible. At this time, the cost and time frame of building a replica of the chicken coop is unknown.
